Real Estate Lottery

I'm moving to the Brooklyn area next month and would love to purchase a property as oppose to rent. I'm having a difficult time finding ANYTHING under $300,000. Can someone explain the lottery process that is available and possibly suggest some neighborhoods that I can be looking in, in that price range?

Good luck to you. The lottery will be the ONLY way to get anything other than a used car for less than $300k in this town.

you can also check the hdc site for lottery info: http://www.nychdc.com/ApartmentSeekers/AS.html

Check out Bay Ridge. You definitely can get a 1 bedroom co-op for under $300K over there. You may even be able to get a 2 bedroom that needs some work.

You will be able to find something for less than 300k without the lottery. As Bklyn born suggested, Bay Ridge is one neighborhood to consider. You may also want to check out Kensington. Both 'hoods have a (relatively) decent commute, amenities, a neighborhood feel, and are in your price range. Good luck!
