Myrtle Nostrand Safety/Shops
Hi, i am about to rent an apartment on Myrtle corner Nostrand, i am a little woried about safety, and also want to know if there is any clean grocerys and bars around there. can anyone help??

My friend moved to Nostrand and Quincy...Im not sure how close Myrtle is to there...but I told my friend to watch out. 3 days after living there someone was murdered on the corner...not my idea of a nice place.

If you are worried about safety, I would suggest not taking the apartment. Ultimately you have to be comfortable with where you are living. People on this site have very varying opinions on that area, I personally would not feel comfortable there safety-wise but that is just me and others may feel differently. You might want to check out recent NY Times articles that profile a building on that corner called The Mynt. I don;t think there are many bars around there either.

If you have to ask about safety before you move in, that should tell you something.

This may be an ugly thing to bring up - but you are asking about safety in a predominantly working class/lower-middle class African-American/Carribean neighborhood. Are you asking if there are drugs and gangs and shootings? Or if you are more likely to get mugged if you are not African-American/Carribean? What are you worried about? Clarity on that may help determine the answer - who you are can determine how you define "safety".
