loud-beep on backing up

I live a few houses from a manufacturing area and one of the businesses is a lumber warehouse.

Recently, they have started to do their work from around 4:30am to 7am and use at least 2 heavy equipment carts that make a loud beeping noise when backing up.

The piercing noise of the equipment wakes me up.

Any one knows what is the noise code around manufacturing areas? I have not yet called 311.

Comments

I don't know about the noise code, but the beeping noise is a safety feature, it's required by OSHA.

Thanks for the reply. I wonder if starting at 4:30 AM is allowed, seems to early.

I don't think there's a law about when a mfg biz can operate. You did say you live in a manufacturing area(?) Perhaps you could talk with the owner? Maybe he's just doing some re-arranging and it will be over soon.

Nothing against the post in particular, but it's funny in the context of recent discussions about bringing back shipbuilding!

First you have to find out if you live in an M1, M2 or M3 manufacturing zone.

Good idea, i got the business number and I'll give them a call. Their zone/block in Manufacturing, bordering my block on the left which is all Residential.
Thanks all for the replies.

One thing 311 is actually good for is finding out the rules on stuff like this.

Call them, give them the address of the business and ask if there are time restrictions on loud operations. That is how I found out that the construction site across the street from me and the one immediately behind me are both allowed to start at whatever ungodly hour they start work. Seven AM, think it was. Deafening cement trucks at seven AM. Don't quote me on that, it could be that I started getting up earlier so's to get out of the house by the time they start work.

Point is: 311 can answer that question, even if you don't want to file a complaint.
