Help with roof deck
I have an approx 550 square foot roof deck. I have a cedar deck and running water and electricty but really nothing else. I want to refinish the deck, build a fence, landscape and possibly put in an outdoor kitchen. Has any one redone a roof deck recently and have any recommendations for who to work with? Also any pics and or rough cost estimates would be helpful. Thanks!

Kitchen? Make sure you get someone familiar with roof loads to see how this will be installed and whether the roof can handle the load. Ditto the flower pots. How is the deck attached to the roof>?

I would recommend Mori Design/Build. Nick specializes in high-end residential roof decks - decking, railings, planters, cabinets, kitchen design, etc. Really reasonably priced & the finished product looks amazing.

I can recomend someone NOT to use - new amsterdam metal works. The project took many months to complete, as we obviously were not a priority to them, and ended up costing 2x as much as they bid. Stay away!

There's a guy, Pete Goetz, he runs Quincy Street Custom carpentry and woodworking. He does custom cabinetry, furniture and built ins, but made some great outdoor potting containers, furniture for The Soho House in Tribeca, and some other rooftop benches/furniture around the city. Also a beautiful shelving unit for me. Really nice and fair guy too. Knows a TON about materials, woods, finishes etc. I would definitely give him a call just to get him to do a consult. I don't think he charges for them. I'm having trouble uploading photos to here, but I know he has good pics of his outdoor/indoor work. Worth asking him for some..
