Anyone know what is going in on 84th and 3rd?
I read on Bay Ridge Rover that a 2 story French restaurant was going into the former location of "Muses"...anyone hear anything?
Comments
Rover is the only source I've heard for that. A two story French restaurant in Bay Ridge sounds very risky. My ex-partner in La Bouillabaisse opened a French restaurant here in the mid 90s (Chez Nick) and it tanked in a few months.

hmmm...well a nice French restaurant would be nice. I hear Starbucks is closing! I'd die if a .99 store opened there....ugh!

I heard that Muses was re-opening just bigger and better. I heard they were opening a back yard space as well. But you know how the rumor mill flies.
I'm wondering whats going on across the street from Mambo Italiano. That project has been going on for a while too. I hears rumors of a jazz club. Anyone hear anything?

Jazz club would be awesome!
Bay Ridge will never be PS...but at least there is some cool places opening on around 3rd ave.

No, Bay Ridge will not be Park Slope but I don't think that's such a bad thing. I lived in Park Slope for 7 years and everything was getting so expensive. I actually can buy stuff in the boutiques and stores here. And eating out is much less expensive.

I hear ya. We just bought a house on 85th between 3rd and ridge...cant wait to move there!

Jazz club would be cool. I was disappointed when Ray's comedy club closed.
Restaurants are affordable and good here.
One of my Fav's is - Polinca (Polish Food)on 3rd btwn 72nd & 73rd. You can get a meal there for under $9.
Welcome to the Ridge, nybk01 - 85th, btwn 3rd & Ridge has some great victorians.

...we just bought one of them! Unfortunately it is in HORRIBLE shape and there is no original details inside except some ceiling medallions and a few stained glass windows. We are doing a complete reno on it. One of the victorians at the top of the street behind Areo just went up for sale...Im not sure what condition its in though.
My wife is Russian so we will definitely check out the Polish place!

Congrats, we bought here 3 years ago after owning in Park Slope and we are very happy we did. There is a nice mix of people here and the food choices are endless. Welcome to the nabe!

Nybk...congrat's.
Details can always be added. You can make it look more victorian than when it was built :).
The owner of Areo lives on that block.
I used to work with the guy, who designed the restaurant and his house.
FYI - Chianti is good also..It's only one block away from you.
Haven't found a good sushi place yet, and I don't think I will.

Yes, I heard the owner lives on the street...a friend of mine knows him too. Actually, now the victorian at the top of the street is for sale:

The best sushi in the neighborhood used to be Fontana down in the 90s but it took a serious nosedive around 2002. I've heard it's good again.
Me, I like Bay Ridge Sushi on 69th and 3rd. It's not much on ambiance but the fish is fresh, the selection is great and the AYCE is cheap: $18.95.

Incidentally, Petite Oven on 69th off 3rd is excellent too. It's run by a couple of women from Bay Ridge.

If you mean the old Henry Grattan, I believe Salty Dog's owners bought it and intend to open a "high end" Mexican restaurant there. But that's from like a year ago.

Have you tried Nouvelle for sushi? One of the chefs used to work at Nobu and the sushi and the rest of the food is fantastic. They also have a mixologist on staff who makes some crazy drinks. Atmosphere is also good, nice outdoor space too.
My brother-in-law who lives in NYC and spends lots o' money on sushi said it was better than most the sushi he's eaten in NYC. (he eats sushi alsmost daily)
Also - Tanoreen is great. Voted best Middle eastern food in NYC this year by Zagats.
BTW - There is a Bay Ridge Food Coop meeting tonight at the Library on 83rd and Ridge at 6:30 on the 2nd floor.
(Can you tell I love food?)

I can tell! This is great, I will check out all these places!

My next door neighbor is going to that food co-op meeting tonight and wants to drag me along. He's a chiropractor and a big fan of holistic/organic stuff so he has a strong interest in seeing this co-op succeed. Me, I still need my White Castle fix a couple of times a year.
PS: best margaritas in Bay Ridge: Case Pepe on 69th off Colonial. Ask for the "Cadillac".
PPS: best gyro/souvlaki: Spartan on 68th & 8th Ave. Ask for the "greek fries", which are french fries with olive oil and feta cheese.

I'm attemptinig to go tonight to if my kids cooperate. I would love to see a food coop in Bay Ridge just so I don't have to treck to fairway for organic produce.
But I have also learned that gourmet food store is opeining on third and 85th in the next month - not far from you NYBKO1. She's going to carry cheeses, olives, organic items, etc.
You know, the more I talk about Bay Ridge, the more it is sounding like PS.

Oh wow that would be great! Right at the top of my street!
Posted by: nybk01 at September 16, 2008 12:39 PM
I was just at my house today...they are starting the reno now on the house on the corner or Ridge and 85th (not the one on the hill, the one on the other side of the road that just sold for 2.2 mill). So now 85th st has 4 houses being gut renovated...2 just finished...and the Vic at the top of the street is for sale! My contractor actually couldnt get the cantainer into my driveway because there is so much going on there!
Posted by: nybk01 at September 16, 2008 12:42 PM
...sorry, gut reno is the wrong word. The guy 2 houses up from me just did a restoration job inside...it came out great!

I'm so happy these homes are saved. I walk this block very often to take my kids to the park on Colonial. It so fun to see the homes return to their grandure. It was disapointing to see 2 vics torn down on 74th street last year. The block was irate because the contractor who bought them promised a reno but tore down and built condos.

I'm happy to see the brisk house sales even here in north Bay Ridge, in the Owls Head Park area. Last year at this time there were 14 homes for sale within a three minute walk. Today there's only one, and it just went on the market last month. (Yes, they were all sold, not taken off the market).
