Another Icestone counter top question
Thanks for the responses on how icestone wears. Does anyone have any experience with A&K Tile Studio on 9th St. in Bklyn. The name is given as fabricator/showroom on the Icestone website.

They're great, local family business, very knowledgeable and a great selection. I was just there this AM in fact. And I got a 15% off coupon in the mail today that I could barter for.

i couldnt stand them. i went in to ask them about a small countertop for our rental unit and that guy was so condescending. he basically would barely talk to me until i brought a piece of the cabinet in...i explained that i'm a designer and know what color countertop would work with my cabinets. in the end he told me my job was too small...even though i stated the size up front. yuk. avoid.

I had a terrible experience with A&K for two jobs they did in a former co-op of mine -- one the installation and fabrication of a granite countertop, the other the installation of a tile backsplash. The countertop was installed with a large chip that appeared to occur in transport and was inadequately fixed. The person they sent to install a tile backsplash was terrible -- we had to hire someone else to come fix it.
I am sure others have had better experiences -- mine, however, were not good.

I have to say, I really liked working with AK tile. Jerry, the aforementioned condescending guy is not particularly gifted in the area of human interaction, but he's a nice enough guy and was really interested in getting me a good deal. I did my whole bathroom reno with them and was very happy with it..stuff came when they said it would, cost what they said it would, etc...

Part of the problem is that Jerry is hard of hearing, in the literal sense.

denton...you know that fits perfectly. I didn't realize that. And, as I said, I really liked working with him a lot. They get thumbs up from me

I had a terrible experience with A&K also. Rude, verbally abusive, lied, dissembled, provided shoddy service and shoddy goods--apart from tiles. But after all, for tiles you only need to place an order, so service of any type is insignificant. I strongly recommend avoiding them. Have you tried Nemo? They rock.
