What's a "Hollywood" Kitchen?
Just saw this term in a rental listing. What would this mean?

I vaguely remember the term meaning a kitchen laid out in a straight row, but I might be wrong--I haven't seen it used since the '50s.

A straight row along a single wall (stove, refrige, sink). Usually along an inside wall (no window over the sink). Many times recessed into a wall (think 6 foot wide closet/framed opening). Covered with a curtain, door or not at all.
Think: the I Love Lucy Episode with Harpo Marx:

It's a kitchen that is done with the finest materials and appliances and looks amazing but if you walk behind it you see that it's all painted onto plywood and being propped up by 2x4s.

A "Hollywood" layout usually refers to a studio efficiency where the apartment is one room and a bath. The kitchen (or kitchenette) faces the living room, sometimes behind folding doors. It often has a Hollywood bed, a bed that can be made up to function as a sofa.
Hollywood apartment complexes are all over Hollywood. They're kind of like motels by-the-week. When I was a musician I used to spend about six weeks every year in one off Sunset while doing recording work or playing in the clubs.

Hollywood Kitchen" was a term used in real estate ads years ago to denote a modern kitchen such as those seen on TV and in the movies. I haven't seen the term used for at least 25 years.

Thanks for the answers. Hopefully it wouldn't look like Sam's hollywood kitchen; )

I actually loved the I LOVE LUCY clip. It made me smile (and made me happy that I don't have that kind of kitchen, though I wouldn't mind the VIEW).
