The handyman mystery has been solved
William "Junior" Prates has been sick; his wife just emailed me to let me know. I'll post comments on his work and if he's good, a recommendation, as I've found the recommendations made by others very helpful.

Well, I hired him to do a job for me starting this evening and I decided to double check (he was at my house Thursday night and looked healthy to me) to see if he was coming today after I read this post. I got his wife who said he wasn't coming because his "truck broke down". He may be great but decided to wait for a friend who will do the job for me. Maybe his truck did break down; maybe he was sick for the other poster AND maybe he did do a great job for someone on this site. AND Maybe he didn't but I'll never know because he is fired before he began. I can't stand this excuse crap; either you do what you say you are going to do or you are fired. I put up with enough of that crap when I was doing my renovation.

Dear donatella,
There's a difference between excuses and things that actually happen,my husband WAS sick and his truck DID break down. Unfortunately we can't keep things like this from happening, he's a human being not a robot.
My opinion is you've had really bad experiences with contractors and now everytime you need one he has to be perfect otherwise he's fired before he even begins the job. My husband does great work and does his best to keep people satisfied. I don't appreciate your comment if you didn't even hire my husband for the job you shouldn't be passing judgement on what he does or not.

We recently used Junior to do painting and plaster work and he did an excellent job and was very reasonable. We would highly recommend him and will use him for additional work.
