spraying ground around joists?

We are fixing some joists in a 150-yr old house and while everything is open to the ground my contractor suggested having an exterminator spray the ground. This house has never had a termite or mouse/roach problem, and I tend to shy away from all pesticide use when possible. Would you have it sprayed now? The thing is, we can't really access this dirt again once everything is closed up. Any advice?

Do you at least have solid either concrete or cmu foundation walls? Would you be spraying the soil - is it how its done? I might be facing the same issue soon and I can't figure out how to insulate the floor effectively.

usually boric acid...its the least toxic and prevents any insects from attacking the wood

it's good insurance

just google it and read up

Helppls - yes, solid concrete foundation walls, dirt interior, joists about 10 inches above the dirt.

DIBS - Can I sprinkle the boric acid on myself? I tried googling but couldn't find application tips for something like this

Termite treatments are only effective for a year or two so unless you currently see evidence of a problem I'd skip it.

WTbound...i think it really has to get sprayed on wet and then it tends to penetrate
