Increase in flight traffic over Clinton Hill

Is it me or has the LGA flight traffic greatly increased over the past 24 hours (in Clinton Hill) ? It seems far noisier than usual.

Comments

Seems the same to me. Sometimes the wind weather patterns affect how loud it is (i.e. the approach or altitude of the planes). I find it quiet most of the time, but sometimes, if the wind is blowing a certain way or the cloud deck is low, the sound sometimes seems to travel farther.

I haven't notice an increased number of planes though...

The seem to fly over P Park, P Heights, Part of Clinton Hill and beyond on their way to Queens.

I personally am surprised that it is not louder as the pass overhead.

we live under the flight path in Park Slope and I haven't noticed, but my neighbor seems to think they have gotten both louder and more numerous in the past few weeks...

There are at least four different approach patterns to LGA depending on visibility, ceiling and active runway. Probably time of day too.

I've noticed an increase "lately." In general, I know they fly lower when it is stormy out.

I'd actually say that in the last two years I've noticed an increase over my first seven years on the Bed Stuy/ Clinton Hill border.

I know someone at JFK and she said the FAA was making them leave more time between planes taking off and landing at the NYC airports because of the recent near misses. (Thus the delays in both our departing and returning flights a couple weeks ago, which I had vented to her about). So maybe because of the delays providing more time between landings, the planes are circling more over Brooklyn waiting longer to land.

I have neighbors who have been concerned with this issue for quite some time now. Personally, I am more bothered by the very low-flying helicopter traffic than by the plane traffic, but for more info on increased air traffic affecting all Prospect Park neighborhoods see:

I also find helicopter noise much more disturbing. I'm guessing they are mostly traffic copters because the noise is mostly in the mornings. We live in Prospect Heights so perhaps we suffer double jeopardy because of our proximity to two traffic hot spots: Grand Army Plaza and the Atlantic/Flatbush intersection. I read in one of the local papers that no-one in local government/agencies has the authority to control this. The copters are regulated solely by the FAA who could care less about conditions on the ground.

It's the redesign of the airspace that went into effect August 1. It will, assuredly get worse before it gets better. This is the result of the present Administration's deregulation policy that allows private enterprise, the market, to adjust supply and demand (landing slots, airline profitability). This philosophy completely ignores the impact on communities as it elevates the bottom line of the airline industry over the health and welfare of the communities they fly over.

The only way to fight this is to get involved. Agitate. Become active in neighborhood groups that are fighting this. The office of Congresswoman Yvette Clarke is working with the Park Slope Quality of Life Committee(www.bbparkslope.com/psqol).
