Fire Sprinklers?

Fire Sprinklers?

Can anyone tell me what these two pipes are ....or why they just suddenly terminate in my 4th floor closet?

Basically they just poke out of the wall and dont connect to anything.

Are they important? can they be moved?

Clothes washer connection?

Well done, Ife.
I'll bet there's a capped-off drain line in the wall somewhere.

oh ok so you are thinking it's not a sprinkler system connection?

there are no plans at all for our brownstone and no one has a clue what is or isn't behind the walls - very frustrating.

I have this 4 inch 'air' duct running through my other closet and no one knows what it is connecting to either.

Aren't these kinds of things supposed to be kept as records on the co-op management board?

Try looking up all the building permits for your COOP. Sometimes plans are kept on record with them, or at least references to places where to find those documents, and it'll give you some idea what work has been done over the years. This is, of course, assuming proper permits were always filed and recorded.

It sounds like all this mystery piping and venting was related to a laundry installation in the past- though you are missing the electric and/or gas lines.

I had the same thing in my closet, I found out there used to be a sink inside of the closet before they installed a master bedroom.

Certainly not fire sprinkler piping. Its low guage copper or brass, which almost always means water lines for a sink, washing machine...etc. Probably had an appliance in that closet at one time. You could def. move them, but will need a licensed plumber to do the dirty work.
