Federal Pacific

I own a two family brownstone. One of the circuit breaker boxes is Federal Pacific. I have a new GE Box and breakers and just need them installed.

Does anyone have any idea of a ball park cost to have this done?

I'd do it myself, but have no way of cutting power to the meter.

Blaze Electric (I know... great name for an electrician) charged me $500 to replace my F-P box with a Square D box I had bought. But this was about eight years ago.

$800. Federal Pacific lost their Underwriters Listing.

I have three Federal Pacific breakers in my basement. I am having my electrician come by for an estimate tonight. Will let you know what he says.

I too have heard good things about Blaze, but that is not who I am using.

I've used Ceriello Electric, ask for Andres Jr to be sent out, he knows his stuff. He just did 3 days of rewiring work for me. They charge $105/hr and are worth it.

I just had an electrician come and price some re-wiring work in my co-op unit:

- replace breaker box (with a 12 slot)
- relocate breaker box about 5' from current location
- bury wiring at 4 rooms
- install ded. outlets at 3 locations for ACs
- provide junction boxes/switching for about 4 new light fixtures

*This is just a rough idea - but after reading the thread it looks like the $5500 estimate I got was kinda high.

(I thought it was a good price.... looks like I will be calling others listed here)

thanks!

Saw this link, re: Federal Pacific Electric Panels: Fires Waiting to Happen
http://www.inspect-ny.com/fpe/fpe.html
"Panel replacement ... typically $800 to $1200"

I had a panel in my house and a breaker would never trip on overload. A space heater burned out an outlet, and I was lucky we didn't have a fire. I think I paid about $800.
