Basement window a/c possibility?
Hi everyone,
So we have a duplex where we've converted our basement into a liveable space and it's wonderful. Except the humidity can get pretty beastly in the summer. Our windows are pretty tiny - 23" W and 19" H. And we're looking for an a/c that could fit into that hole that is as quiet as possible, energy efficient, and around 9,000-10,000 BTUs. Any recommendations?

Haier makes some compact A/Cs. Here an 8k BTU that might fit:

Most 8kbtu units will fit without the plastic "wings", since the actual unit is smaller than the "minimum window size" that the specs show. You'll just have to cut a piece of wood or plexi to fill the small gap on one side (set the a/c hard against the other.) You probably don't need a larger one.

A tip -- even with an A/C you need a large rolling dehumidifier if you want to keep the basement nice and dry in Summer. We and our neighbors have them in our finished English basements even if there's central A/C installed in the houses.
