Who pays for tree removal?

We're a co-op in the Slope and the first floor apartment is the only one with backyard rights. Sadly, the tree is dead and poses a hazard. Even sadder, it is unclear who "owns" the tree and should pay to have it removed. Thoughts?

Seems like a co-op expense - we had a similar issue and it was a co-op expense. Unless you mean a neighboring property owns the tree, then it is a lawsuit waiting to happen

The tree is owned by the person who owns the land where the trunk goes in the ground. That's the person you need to contact. If it's on coop property, send a certified letter to the board, in case it falls on your head.

If it's on co-op property then the co-op corporation itself is probably responsible, not the individual shareholder who uses the backyard.

Consult a real estate lawyer, which the co-op board should already have.
