I went to an open house today on union street btw hoyt and bond. I really loved the house but not so sure about the location. I am not familiar with this area so some feed back would be really appreciated.

What projects are you referring to? I live on President between Hoyt & Bond, and I can't say enough wonderful things about it. You are nestled between Park Slope and Carroll Gardens, so you have tons of amenities around you. The projects are a few blocks down, and I almost never even know they are there, unless I specifically walk down Hoyt Street. Union Street may be a bit busier because it is a bus route and through street to the park, however.

Also, street parking is much easier in this area, and there is even a relatively inexpensive garage on Union & Bond. And everyone I've met in the area is very nice. There's a cool combination of newcomers and old-time Carroll Gardens residents. Good luck!

I would say go for it You are in BOCOCA and the best thing is Gowanas Is probably the most up and coming Artist location in the NYC area. You have Smith street with tons of very good and great resturants. You have everything you need on Court street. You can even walk to 5th ave if need be for more dining options.

Sounds like you were looking at the house between Hoyt and Bond across from PS 32. Or at least that is the one open house I know about.
It is a lovely place, and in fact we also took a quick peek at it since we live down the block between Smith and Hoyt on Union.
I would say that Union is a wonderful street, and although between Bond and Hoyt there are not the gardens you get on our block, the renovation that was done is so nice that I think you will enjoy your quiet backyard and beautiful interior.
Also love the fact you have working fireplaces there too!

I'd say that's borderline -- it's far better to be between Smith and Hoyt than Hoyt and Bond, but of course, you are only a block away so it's not horrible. However, if you are interested in public schools, I believe that block is not zoned for a particularly good school.

Gowanus Houses on Douglass - Only 3-4 Blocks away.

There is nothing "borderline" about the location. PS. The Gowanus Houses are about "3-4 blocks" away from almost every house in Cobble Hill + Boerum Hill and a good part of Carrol Gardens.

The Entire city is 3 or 4 blocks away from a Housing development and if they are not near a housing authority development, then they are right next to a Ghetto or not so nice of a nabe. EX: Park Slope/Crown Heights/ The other side of the Prospect park.

"EX: Park Slope/Crown Heights/ The other side of the Prospect park."
I live on 3rd street and 6th Ave in Park slope - Please enlighten me as to which projects are 3-4 blocks away.
Thanks!

A four block radius around the Gowanus Houses would extend east/west from Henry St. to 5th Avenue and north/south from Atlantic Avenue to Fifth Avenue, encompassing almost all of Cobble Hill + Boerum Hill and parts of Gowanus. Ironically, it would not include the block that was of interest to the OP (Union St. between Hoyt and Bond which is 5 blocks away.

Well ok you live on 3rd street and 6th ave right? OK walk up to Prospect park west then cross over to Eastern Parkway, How many blocks was that? Ok that is not housing projects but it certainly is a Ghetto. Now walk on over to Flatbush ave and what's right there? ok now lets see who is walking all over 7th ave at 3pm after school? Ok my point indeed.

Again - This is not 3 or 4 blocks, You and the 2:33 poster are idiots. The OP is planning on living 3-4 blocks (Read-Street Blocks) from a huge housing project. This translates into a 1 minute or less walk.
What you guys are talking about "A four Block Radius encompasses 5th Avenue" and "Cross Prospect Park to Eastern Parkway..." are really measured more in miles than minutes. Please try to at least be more realistic when arguing your obvious major stretch of a point.
