new bike lanes on berkeley and lincoln
anyone know what the double parking implications are now that we have bike lanes on berkeley and lincoln? i know you are not supposed to block the bike lines when you double park, but it seems to me that our streets aren't wide enough to allow for bike lanes, double parking, and regular traffic. Thoughts?

Yes. Please don't double park. Or make illegal U turns. Get on a bike if you can, it is good for all of us.

Not to hijack the thread, but on a similar note: does anyone know the bike route to take to get to the bike path that runs along the harbor by the Marine Park bridge, the horse riding academy, Mill Basin, etc?
From Bay Ridge, I know you take the harbor promenade from 69th St, go under the Verrazano, past Caesar's Bay and the duck into Coney Island. I think you take Neptune Ave from there but I'm not sure of the route beyond that.
Anyone know a route that doesn't require mixing it up with heavy car traffic?

Yeah, zz, spoken like a true cyclist (not.)
There are always times when it's necessary to stop for loading/unloading etc and if cyclists think they are more entitled than other road users, we'll never get anywhere. After all, you can always cycle by a parked car but a car cannot. And why is the illegal U-Turn (legally speaking aside) so worthy of comment? If we cyclists comment on every infraction that vehicles do, we'll eventually be forced to stop for red lights and stop signs. And that would be terrible ;).
It's all a matter of respecting others and allowing for unexpected circumstances. It's the abusers who park all day, for instance, that we should be challenging.

But it's not about what's logical or fair or sympathetic, 11:19. Too often it's about a highly political stance and always getting in faces about it.
I'm a liberal and proud but these kinds of attitudes always make me think to myself "this is why people get so annoyed with liberals".
It's not helping things, people. You have to know you're just preaching to the choir when you're annoying and sound like a kook. Not actually changing hearts and minds and habits.

There are bike lanes everywhere now, but they seem mainly to screw up traffic for no benefit because I don't see any bikes using them. They're everywhere else, running lights, going the wrong way, and almost running me over as I cross the street at the corner with the light. The occasional bikers I do see in the lanes like to get pissy about anything blocking them, but they want it both ways. Use those lanes guys, if I catch you out of them I'll be whistling as I hose the blood off my SUV.

See what crawls out of the woods?
Fyi, bikes can legally use the roadway whether or not there is a marked bike lane.

For Steve-Directions:
Hey there-Take Neptune Avenue straight past Ocean Parkway, Coney Island Avenue and keep going. It will turn into Emmons Avenue. When you get to the end of Emmons, the entrance is right next to the Parking Lot of the Comfort Inn by Emmons and Knapp Street. You have to be a little careful with the traffic on Emmons, but it is not too bad. You could also take the Bedford Avenue Bike Lane to the end of Bedford and make a left on Emmons Avenue. It's about 10 blocks from Bedford/Emmons.
For OP-Get out of your car and get on a bike, or on your feet!

I live on berkeley in ps and I don't see any bike lanes. Where are you talking about?

Bike threads really seem to bring out the worst in people. Hosing blood off my SUV? Are you serious? Why even joke about maiming or killing someone who does what, exactly?
Irritates you?
I totally don't get it. Gas is pushing $5 and there are still people arguing that bikes are bad?

well - clearly people have a lot to say about bike lanes - but no one commented one the double parking issue.
Anyone without an axe to grind care to comment?????

Hose off the blood? What a waste. Very soon you're going to need that blood to pay for the gas to stick in the tank of your fat-assed, rolling road block.
