DO NOT USE ALL-STAR LOCKSMITH
I want to relate a story that should make sure no one who reads this will ever patronize All-Star Locksmith in Park Slope. In a nutshell, they "fixed" our broken buzzer, charged us over $500, and then when the buzzer immediately started malfunctioning, they first blew off an appointment to fix their shoddy work, and then claimed that we'd have to pay anew for that work.

Sorry, I did have a great experience with the hardwar store on Flatbush and seventh. They fixed my mortise lock and I wound up tipping the guy more than the bill because they came so fast.
Who is good for buzzers? Nathan at South SLope Woodworks spent a long time and many shopping trips to get our new door to be able to buzz in. I think our whole system needs an update. Any thoughts.

Is their anything listed on your invoice stating any warranty (probably not, but I figured I would ask)?
Also, if you paid with a CC, you may want to ask them (your CC company) to put a hold/dispute on the charge, even if you don't techically have a leg to stand on.

After having a good relationship with All Star since it moved into that space, and happy to have them in the neighborhood -- aside from the fact that the owner is an evangelical Christian and more than once tried to prosteltyze me -- we recently had a couple of bad experiences with them and we will not patronize them again. First off, we needed a basement door lock changed. Simple cylinder job and some keys copied for tenants. He quoted one price over the phone and then when the job was done (still holding the keys) demanded another, a couple of hundred more. In the hope of maintaining the relationship, and needing the keys, we paid up -- though not before arguing with him.
In a moment of hopefulness, when I was laid up after surgery, I sent my teenager there to get a copy of one of those fancy lock keys. It was one of those $5 keys but they only charged us $2. Well, the "All Star" used the wrong blank and of course the key didn't work. I had to hobble over with a cane and still they charged me the higher price to make it right even though it was their fault.
Jerks.
Don't go there.

you paid a couple hundred more than some amount for a simple cylinder change and some keys? no way...that's nuts.

Locksmith overcharge
I just paid over $626.66 this morning for a locksmith to replace my lock. He said cylinder was bust. He is breakdown:
$375 for Yale single side lock
$195 for Hi-security cylinder
$45 for installation
He put $45 on bill for service call and I insisted he remove it. I got a 12% discount - big deal!
Was is completely fleeced?
If so did I pay double? Should I stop the check I gave him?
Thx

sorry the only ave you chose to solve a problem is to attack who i am. when you called for service you failed to mention you didnt have the keys for the lock that we opened for you ,which of course in order to change the lock the door must be open first. after opening the door a gave your husband a choice of 2 replacement locks you chose the cheaper one.not just a simple cylinder change as you say, you needed a whole lock.. and we didnt over charge. ask your husband if i ever mentioned what u call religion..not once and never prostelize you only asked about your work....writing about religion....seems youd have alittle more tolerance? we know we cant make evryone happy but we sure try.. we are licenced bonded and insured and are a family owned buisness for over 25 yrs with more than one location. allstarlocksmith
