Anyone know why 7th Avenue was blocked off on Saturday in Park Slope?

Seriously- during the downpours on Saturday evening, it took me 20 mins(I was driving) to get to my house b/c my block was blocked off by barricades and cops who weren't giving me ANY advice as to where I needed to go to actually get into my house. So am curious what the EFF was going on?

i can commiserate. it's one thing to shut down 7th ave early, but at 9pm the night before? and every single thru street?? even 9th st (big street!) was shut from 6th ave to 8th ave. could have at least let cars pass thru on their way up toward the park.

no no
It wasn't preparation for the street fair

The whole damn area was shut down for some filming from like Union to 16th
I saw some weird protest down 15th street from 8th turning onto 7th that I could have sworn was being filmed
just ridiculous to have hours of the whole neighborhood blocked off for a movie to be filmed
bloomie strikes again pimping out our hoods

Um, it had nothing to do with the street fair on Sunday.

It was for Brooklyn Gay Pride, which was Saturday. Parade, etc...

Embrace diversity please. Even if you had to wait an extra 20 mins.

I find it strange that a whole neighborhood would have been blocked off (and I mean you couldn't ride up or down streets from Union to 16th at about 8pm for a parade that probably would have passed through hours prior... I think it was something else.
BTW -t he 7th avenue fair which took place on Sunday didn't have the same "Lock Down" feel to it - so why would the Gay Pride Parade need to have a permit where people couldn't get up and down streets

2:31 - it's not about embracing diversity - I just find it strange like the OP said - why the entire hood had to be blocked off for hours as if the president was in town or something...

****
This year's Gay Pride parade is taking place Saturday, June 14 from 8 - 10 p.m. This year's theme is "Live Love Be."

And because of the rain, it was a mess.

So you are wrong, 2:51.

"why the entire hood had to be blocked off for hours as if the president was in town or something"

So funny. This is exactly what happens or used to happen in L.A. for Gay Pride parade too. They would close off so many roads and in such a configuration it was literally impossible to get certain places in your car. They'd close off the streets starting in the early morning. You had to make sure you had food in the house before the day of the parade beacause you would be trapped and no delivery car could get to you. I'm supportive of our GLBT community but come on.

so stop driving.

we live in the only city in the country where a car is completely unneccessary.
