150 Joralmon
I rent in Brooklyn Heights and am, tentatively, looking to buy. There is a place I like at 150 Joralemon but wonder if anyone knows anyone who lives or has lived in the building? It has some really nice features, and the location is great, but the apartments are tiny. Also the maint is very high esp given there is no proper laundry and no doorman. Just wondering if there is a good vibe in the building and if people who live there think the benefits outweigh the downside. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

i lived there for 6 years (2000-2006) and loved it. the location is great, and that stretch of clinton street is the easiest place in brooklyn to catch a cab. also there's a 24-hour deli on the corner that comes in handy. the building is well maintained, and there is a pretty friendly vibe among neighbors and building staff. you're right about the high maintenance and small apartments (but, depending on the floor and apartment line, they have great views of the city and harbor). the building has a self-amortizing mortgage as well as a full-time super and two porters (and they will accept packages for you, even though there is no doorman), which are a couple of reasons the maintenance is so high. around the time i was leaving the building, there was some turn over with the live-in super, so i don't know what the status is now. that's something you might want to ask about. the board is responsive, but a little on the slow side for the interview process, so the buying/selling thing can take awhile. i think there is laundry on every floor (except maybe the 8th floor which has a meter room instead). i liked having a washer and dryer just down the hall instead of having to go to a laundry room in the basement. for me, the buidling's pros definitely outweighed the cons.

I very much agree with 10:11. Having lived there last year while my brownstone was being renovated, I really enjoyed the location, the views, and the neighbors. The new super is actually quite good, though I really cannot compare him with the prior resident's memories of his predecessors. It is a wise choice. Good luck!
