Where Can We Find Document Defining Property Lines

We need to put up/take down fence/s and build a retaining wall to keep back our neighbor's crumbling landslide. Long story... Anyway, my contractor asked for proof of the property line so so there's no disputing the placement. Is this a DOB thing?

You need a survey. There are many companies that do them. I have used JWS Company and was happy with their work... 718-686-8719

a survey and the property needs to be marked/staked by the surveyor for your contractor...sometimes the latter is a bit extra money.

Would a survey done for the title company as part of the closing suffice? Thanks.

you'd have to ask your contractor if he's comfortable working "off the drawing." Ultimately though it's you who's liable if something gets built over the actual property line. You're contractor seems conscientious and is actually looking out for your best interests by doing so.

You will be sorry if you don't do a survey

No, 2:06, it probably will not suffice. There are two kinds of surveys: a title survey and an architectural survey.

The survey done by the title company is (most likely) a title survey, a written document which describes the metes and bounds (it'll say something like "Running thence" from this point to that point, listing latitude/longitude). This info is obtained from public records.

An architectural survey is an actual scaled plan of the lot, with dimensions drawn on paper. A surveyor comes out to the site and measures. The architectural survey is what you need.
