Saturday Construction

What can I do. I call 311 for the past three weeks, and the DOB don't respond. Its the new steel building on Columbia between Summit and Woodhull. Being built by Mr House of Pizza who delivers on your Fedder dream home. The place is HUGE, it runs the entire span of three lots. and by entire I mean all the way back to the end of the property line to bump up on the Church behind it. How that got approved is beyond me. But they work every Saturday. They have no permit for this work, and there at present 3 open tickets with the DOB. Is there anything else I can do?

Someone is building a structure that big and has no permits? I find that hard to believe....

do nothing and let them finish. the faster the better, you can only slow them down. so mind your own business, i'm sure you're not the only one living their.

you're an idiot, no permit for new construction just because you don't see it? your post is pathetic.maybe they should knock on your door to show it to you and ask for your permission to continue.

Idiot is as idiot does 9:09 (and I suspect 9:04 as well.) Permits for all work are supposed to be posted in plain view. The OP is probably correct in assuming that the builder is doing whatever he/she wants regardless of what is required by the DOB. Are you perchance connected in some way to the building in question?

10:12, do you think that it's possible for a builder to build a large project like the op is describing with out the proper permits. I'm sure he told the dob that they have no permits. why don't you tell us why they ignored him.

their has to be a reason why the dob is not responding. if they're building illegally, then the dob has some easy money to make.

10:34, have you ever called the DOB to file a complaint? Good luck. My experience has been that unless the building is in serious danger of falling down you'll just get passed along. Something like working on a weekend without a permit is not something they're going to look into without someone from the Community Board leaning on them because frankly, the inspector has probably been 'tipped off' to ignore the complaint.

8:44. we're mainly talking about them having permits. we don't know what they're doing on the weekend, but i tell you i had an inspector come to my house and throw down the weekend rules on me such as no work on sundays and certain hours on saturday.

Call your local Community Board and the Borough Presidents office. Make your complaints known but before you do that make sure that you have all your facts straight regarding times of work and what the existing posted permits allow.
Good luck.
