Rental Furniture ?

Have friends that are immigrating to the NY area. They have taken on a rental apt. but need to furnish it, temporarily. Their stuff arrives in the US in about two months. Any ideas for rental places or other solutions.

Thanks.

I have heard that rental places can be secured through brokers, new york times real estate classifieds, and a new internet service called craigs list.

duh! thanks for your piercing insight 5.48am. Perhaps if you learnt to read you would understand I was asking about furniture rental recommendations as per the heading.

Of course one can also find such online also, but it's always good to hear from those with personal experience in using any of the rental services. Family is moving to Brooklyn btw.

Try CORT furniture rental--I used them in Boston and San Diego, and I've seen their trucks in NYC.

Actually, 5:48 gave really bad advice. For all the piercing insight he thought he had. There is a bad and spreading infestation of bedbugs in NYC right now and you can bring bedbugs into your home inside used furniture found on the sidewalk or from Craigs List furniture. I myself wouldn't even trust used furniture rentals.

The best option of all, OP, is they go to Ikea (in Elizabeth NJ) and spring for an inexpensive but new and clean sofa and bed and just live with those pieces for a while until they get settled and find more furniture. They can buy an inflatable air mattress at stores here in NYC, or order one online, and sleep on that until they get to go to Ikea. I've moved across country before and it's not any different from moving from overseas. I did that, would just get a bed first then gradually get furniture after that.

What they'd pay at Ikea for a couple pieces is the same they'd pay to rent used furniture.

It's a little ghetto, but when I was without a couch/chair for 4 weeks (they were being reupholstered) I sat on a blow up float from target. They didn't have any of those blow up chairs so I took what they had. I thought of it as camping.

Actually, skip the bed from IKEA altogether and go with a double hieght inflatable mattress from Target or Walmart online. They are $70 or 80, surprisingly comfortable, and after their furniture arrives they will have a a guest bed ready to go whenever.

Had Cort furniture in a corporate rental once. The mattress was so cheap it was unsleepable. The couch ditto - unsittable. And these were brand new pieces (I know, as I had them replace the previous lousy ones - still cheap and lousy.) And I never considered myself all that picky. Second the Ikea idea.
