Painting a brick facade
I'd like to paint the speckled brick on the front and back of my house. Can anyone recommend a painting crew? Any ideas how much this should cost for a 3-story structure?

If the brick has never been painted, you are much better off leaving it as is. The paint will seal in moisture and inevitably peel. Then you have created ongoing maintenance problem. May I suggest that you look into having the brick power washed and pointed if necessary. This may be all that is needed to spiff up the appearance.

Painting brick is not recommended -- bricks have to breathe, letting water vapor pass through. A paint layer traps the water and accelerates the spalling of the brick surface.

Masonry paint can be used provided it is vapor permeable. I hired a masonry crew to fix the stucco and paint the bricks on my summer home 2 seasons ago and it still looks like new.
