The store is almost done and they are getting ready to open(June 18).
The esplanade is really very nice and very large. It shows great care
and they have spent a lot of money redoing the piers(adding new metal
piling, adding protection to prevent undermining). They have allowed
the tugboat company to dock in their basin. They maintained some of
the graving dock and other vestiges of the maritime past of the site..
Besides the 1400 parking spaces, they have arranged for water Taxi
service, a 15 minute shuttle from 3 train stations. They also unlike
other Ikea's have both a large delivery service and a currier delivery
service for smaller packages.
Free baby sitting, inexpensive food and inexpensive furniture and
furnishings are some of the highlights.
They hired from Red hook giving three weeks head start to the locals
for hiring. All of the locals were at least interviewed.
Some jobs are still available.
Ikea has opened a factory in the US to build some of the furniture.

Why is Brownstoner all of a sudden a good place to run PR/propaganda for a big box store? Okay, IKEA is coming, people are excited (or angry), but why are people cutting and pasting the store's ads and posting it here? I assume someone from IKEA did this? Annoying.
