Moving Permit?
Hi,
Does anyone know how to get a moving permit (for a moving truck) for Park Slope? Thanks!

What's that for? Alternate side has been cancelled-
Even with the old rules, I've moved like four times in the slope and the carting company has never told me/asked me about any moving permit need.

And alternate side was never the problem - actually, it helped, because if you pulled a truck up at the right time, or blocked cars from reparking there in some other way, you'd at least have had the street cleared for you to claim a portion. And you could load up a truck during those hours, too. I used to plan my local moves around that. Now, you never have a clear street to claim.
Wonder if city will adress this now that alt. side is gone. Seems they'd have to. Ask your city councilperson's office to help.

Moving permit? Never heard of that. Unless you're starting your own moving biz...

What is a moving permit. I moved 3 times in the last 7 years and never heard of this at all. The movers show up with the truck, pack it up, and unload at final destination. Am I missing something that would require a permit?

Oh right, so it seems this doesn't exist -- no wonder I couldn't find it. (Every other city I've moved to, and unfortunately it has been a few -- has had a little application where you could reserve the space usually used for parking for a moving van for a small fee.) Thanks for the tips!

4:13, reserve on-street parking? hehe. Surely that would drive up the murder rate.
2:45 is correct, alt parking allowed you to bring the truck up when no cars were on the street. Wouldn't want to be moving in the SLope right now...

Solution - garbage cans and an attitude.

Actually you can go to your local precinct and ask for such a permit (really a bunch of no parking signs for a particular day). As pointed out, no one does it here because heretofore one could game the alternate side parking. . Whether people pay attention to the signs or not is another thing...
How's that no alternate side doing in Park Slope?

Actually, I did when when my movers requested I do it, and my local precinct (the one at 6th and Flatbush) told me they didn't do such a thing - ever.

D.O.T. street obstruction permit or something similar, we use them when we need to set up a crane for HVAC equipment etc.

I have a similar question! I am moving into Prospect Heights, and have hired a moving company that uses large trucks. What kind of moving/truck parking permit do I need, and where do I obtain it from?
