You can contact the photo archive room of the New York Historical Society. They have files by street. You can look through the folder and you may find a picture of your building. You have to email them in advance and make an appointment and they will pull the relevant files.
good luck

Call the Landmark Preservation. They take pictures of every landmarked property at the time it is landmarked.

If it's a major intersection in Brooklyn or NYC, there might be postcards out there showing the building. It's amazing what they made postcards of back in the day. Lots of views you wouldn't expect. Because it was before people had small cameras for making snapshots. So there were tons of postcards showing simply general neighborhood scenes. And specific historic houses and apartment buildings. There is a Brooklyn historian who collects these kinds of postcards and photos and makes books - I'd have to look up his name. My neighbor borrowed my copy of the book I have.

This person apparantly has a very large archive of historical photos in his house somewhere on Long Island. When I spoke to him on the phone, he was willing to let me come over and look through his photos. If you find something, he has a dark room and can make a copy of any of his pictures from negatives.

Between 1939 and 1941, the city photographed every house and building in the five Boroughs. Copies are now available for purchase. Go to:
