Ceiling Fan Repair
My ceiling fan's chain that operates the option of having the fan on or off no longer works. I took it apart and found I can't do anything to get the "click" to work again, so I electrical taped some wires closed so that, for now, the fan part stays closed when I open the light. I don't know what else to do at this point and would like it fixed before the warm weather sets in. Can anyone recommend someone reliable for such a job (knowing it is small)? An electrician would be ideal, but I don't know who to call and I have a feeling they'd probably pass on such a small job. Perhaps I can buy another piece to replace and try it again? Please help with any recommendations! Thanks so much in advance...

You can get a brand new one for less than $30.

I thought about getting a new one, but was wondering how much it would then cost me to have it installed (by an electrician). I'm trying to go the best route, safety-wise and price-wise.

The three speed switches are fairly fragile, but easy to replace. If you remove the switch and bring it to Lamp Warehouse on Ft. Hamilton Pkwy they;ll sell you a replacement and give you instructions on how to wire it. IIRC the last time i bought one it was around $15.The switches are much cheaper at Lowes, but there's no one to give you instructions.
OTOH, if you'd actually consider hiring an electrician to install a new fan, replacing the switch might be too difficult for you. That's not a criticism, but if you can't do simple jobs like this on your own, you've got to be prepared to spend a LOT of money
