War against Squirrel Nation - Need roofer

A squirrel got into my duplex apartment and well let's just say he was a bad guest. It has a tragicomic quality and when I have more time, I will post the details about this creatures two day trail of destruction. I knew how he made it out of the wall into my apartment (since fixed) but couldn't figure out where he got in from outside. I now have a clue - somehow got in through an opening into the wall from a rain gutter. I need a good person who isn't going to charge an arm and a leg (already spent that on repairs of the incredible damage this creature wreaked on furniture and window treatments, blinds etc).
Thanks as always for your recommendations.

One of the best This American Life Episodes was told by this police officer who responded to a call, people thought they had an intruder, turned out to be a squirrel, they tried to catch the squirrel and ended totally trashing and destroying the apartment. They even set the couch on fire.

Cheap roofers are a dime a dozen and the workmanship is of poor quality. Better roofers will charge more but worth it. Maybe should have skipped the "window treatments" and fixed your roof?

And are you the budget expert for all? Or just some cranky ass who feels the need to be snide to people attempting to use this site for its supposed purpose?

I will post the whole story some time; it did look like a robbery - or maybe a drugged up rock band trashing of a hotel room, got into the food and chocolate....wrecked everything - oh my God. Need a roofer though. Kindly recommend.

I feel your pain. I had a squirrels in my previous duplex and oh my god what a nightmare trying to seal the place.
Put chicken wire over all your chimneys and vent pipes, no matter how small. They'll squeeze thru almost any sized opening.

Not sure why you need a full fledged roofer but I was very happy with Pete at
Bensonhurst Construction, who who replaced my roof. p718 449-1665 c917 559-4308. He's generally busy but worth a try.

If you need someone for gutters/drainpipes who could also do misc. repairs, I was happy with Steve at Crystal General Contracting. He replaced my drainpipes, did a nice job at very reasonable prices. 718 238 9433

we had the same problem a year ago. What I read is that because its breeding season, the squirrels will do anything to protect thier young, which they nest in the walls. So if you chicken wire it in right now, they'll just find another entry.

I was told to wait it out until later in the summer and then do the repairs and prevention then.

shamine was excellent and did great rear cornice repair (both carpentry and to loose masonry beneath) to rid us of squirrel entry. just completed the job for a good price. 347-219-7909.

I had a problem with some squirrels burrowing into my roof last year. I tried to cover/seal the hole with chicken wire but they managed to circumvent or chew through those materials. In the end, I bought a trap and easily caught and exterminated a number of them. It was an unpleasant job but the best in the end. If you do an online search you will find a lot of information out there about dealing with squirrel problems and can order a steel trap. I never knew how awful these little creatures were until this experience.

We had the same problem; we called a roofer but he recommended that we do it ourselves because he'd charge more than the job was worth. So we placed chicken wire over the hole and mortared over it. It was quite easy.

what you do is you take bird seed and pack it into a baseball sized ball with rat poison and peanut butter. then you roll it into the hole in your roof. then you make a large pile of seed outside and wait. it should take about 3 days.
