Union St in Carroll Gardens

Can anyone give me a sense of the noise level along Union St. in Carroll Gardens? (Spec between Smith and Hoyt?) I'm aware a bus line goes down the street.

I don't know about CG but the noise from the buses on Union Street in Park Slope is insane. I was making a cell phone call in the afternoon on a weekday last week trying to get a car service outside Union Market, and I was literally having to scream into the phone and couldn't even hear the dispatcher there were so many buses, trucks and schoolbuses going by. People complain about Union Hall being noisy but I'm like, uh, how do you even hear Union Hall in all that din? It must be more quiet at night without all the delivery trucks and buses. So they hear the Union Hall people more clearly then.

agreed. lived on union in park slope years ago - never again. It is a truck route because of the bridge over the Gowanus. It isn't only the noise, but the puffs of polluted truck smoke that come in your windows (and your lungs - you notice.) Dated someone who lived on Union on the C.G. side - ditto - noise and dirt. One street over - different thing entirely.

The Union St bus runs every half-hour only. No truck traffic, except for perhaps deliveries to your neighbors.

Trucks are even worse than buses – the buses, while irritating, don’t run all that often. Dated someone who lived on Union on the C.G. side - ditto - noise and dirt. Union st btw hoyt and smith probably isn't as bad as park slope, but still not great.

I have lived on that very block and it really is not that bad at all. I would say the only noticeable annoyance was the bus, which can be pretty loud in the summer with the window open. But that is only once every half hour or so. The truck traffic is really not bad at all.

Union in carroll gardens is one way. Less traffic than park slope, but the bus can be loud. I live on Union and its ok.

It isn't just the bus traffic, there is a lot of garbage truck traffic on Smith that can be quite loud late at night.

I am suffering through it on President between Smith and Court, and still looking to see if there are other causes.

See the Noise at night near Carroll Park forum entries for more info.

I live on Union in PS also and don't find it too loud at all. My bedroom is in the front of the house and i've never had a problem sleeping because of noise. Buses don't run that often and never noticed much truck traffic.

What is it with the noisiness of the buses? The one's that stop in front of my house and accross the street are quite noisy. Plus they make the metal parts of my windows vibrate, more so than even the garbage trucks. Any solutions for noise and pollution from buses in PlaNYC?

I live on Union St in CG (Hoyt/Smith) and the bus sucks. Have never gotten used to the noise and exhaust. Don't move or buy there, if that is what you are asking about. All the other blocks nearby are very quiet; Union St is the outlier.

Wow, I'm loking to buy in this immediate area of Union Street and thought that the only annoyance was going to be the school, but that is much more pleasant than garbage trucks and busses that are 24/7...how about the neighbors closer to Bond street, because as i was coming down union, there is a pretty quick shift in neighborhood - is this the border of CG & Gowanus? Can anyone please offer up some opinions on the block...Much appreciated!

Can anyone comment on the garbage truck noise specifically on President street btw 5th and 6th Ave? I am looking to move into a brownstone but the bedroom is in the front and I am very concerned about noise. Clearly a quiet street otherwise... Does anyone know what time collection takes place?

Thank you!
