Brownstone Stoop Renovation
I am looking to have a limestone stoop reshaped and brownstoned and would be interested in hearing about anyone's experience with this type of job. I was wondering about what a job like this should cost. I was also curious how people go about choosing the style of the stoop and railing. Are there any websites out there that show different options one could look at and show to contractors. Also if anyone can recommend a contractor it would be much appreciated.

The best idea, if your original railings are missing, is to order the 1940 tax photo of the property. Chances are the originals were still in place at that time. Order the larger print.

Have a look around the neighborhood for houses like yours that have nice old railings that appeal to you.
A great townhouse reference book is Charles Lockwood's "Bricks and Brownstone". (Apparently, he does consultations if you want to go that far.) And there are several Dover publications that might help.
As for your stoop, why would you want brownstone on a limestone stoop? Limestone is generally more stable, and spalls less. Has the house facade been brownstone coated, perhaps?
Whatever you do, if it can be avoided don't get the sides of the stoop done, just the steps. And make sure the contractor shows you actual examples of his work. On site. And speak to the owners.
