Top reasons for leaving Brooklyn
Anyone else notice the incongruity on a site like Brownstoner of the banner ad for the Opal Ridge detached houses in Staten Island with the "leave Brooklyn" tag-line? Aren't y'all jonesin' to move to SI and invest your housing cost savings in a Disney vacation?

Yes, I thought it was a joke. But, alas it is not.

Nobody who might choose to leave Brooklyn to get more house for the money would buy some nasy new-construction subdivision house. Do they even know the readership here? Isn't that supposed to be part of their research before they buy ads anywhere?
The only properties somebody coming from brownstone Brooklyn might buy on Staten Island would be the large historic houses on SI like the large Victorians. Or the NY Times did a piece on a guy who bought a pre-Revolutionary War house on SI in a rural setting, so SI has some of that older housing stock. But nobody here would buy a new condo or new attached townhouse monstrosity on SI. Those people wasted their ad dollars.

yeah, this is weird.

Staten Island? I'd leave for Maine or maybe Vermont. You'd have to kill me first.

I think it must be a joke.
Unless you are born there, no one actually moves to Staten Island.

I wouldn't leave anywhere to go to Staten Island.

Some people volunteer to move there. I worked with a Russian guy who moved to SI. I asked him why and he said "I hate Brooklyn. Too many F*ing Russians." I kinda like Russians. To each their own.

wow, 2:56. this russian guy sounds like a smarty!

why don't you just ignore the ad instead of starting a thread to boost your feelings of superiority over the unwashed masses out on Staten Island?
get over yourself.

5:28,
No need to get all bent out of shape. Not intended as a diss against Staten Islanders, in fact I know some really cool people that grew up or live there. Different strokes for different folks. I just thought it was kind of like PETA posting a membership in Soldier of Fortune.

That should read "membership ad"

The ad makes sense when you consider how many posts you read here everyday from people saying that every listing in Brooklyn is overpriced. Eventually some people give up and buy elsewhere.

That is true, 6:49. I think that's why the ad is there. It's kind of funny.

Yeah, this is awful. This development is also way at the ass end of Staten Island. Too bad they don't list the 3 hours a day you'll spend commuting in the ad.
