Tin Ceiling repair
Hi. I have a small area in a tin ceiling that has disolved and needs to be replaced (due to water damage) can anyone recommend someone? Would love to hear from anyone who has direct experience with resolving this problem themselves or using a contractor.

You can generally find replacement pieces for most common tin ceiling patterns at a place called Standard Tinsmith - located in Bushwick. They have an informative website and you can order stuff online or stop by their shop. Here is the link: http://www.tinsmith.com/Scripts/default.asp
I have bought several pieces of tin ceiling from them and used it to patch a rusted ceiling. Once it is painted, you really can barely see the patches.

Try Abbingdon on Utica Ave. You can match your pattern online. I believe they do deliver materials, but if you swing by in person you will be sure to match the pattern and they should be able to give you pointers on how to install yourself. Its a fairly straightforward DIY project, unless you have to patch the tin moldings as well.
