we cant find a real long 6 to 7 foot rectangular bathtub - are we crazy to find someone to build it onsite and tile it inside?

Try googling "6 foot bathtub" or "7 foot bathtub". There are numerous links.
And next time how about trying that BEFORE you post a question?
And yes, you can do a custom tub, but not for $3,000. You need an excellent tiler to do this successfully.

Home Depot Expo has quite a few 6' & 7' tubs. Not on their website. You need to go to their showroom. Try the one in Westbury, Long Island.

The ignorance of the general population rears it's face in the comments of the uninformed.
72" is the building standard. Unfortunately for most tall people the length of the floor of the tub is not much longer than a 60" tub. Most of the length is at the Top of the tub where it is not that useful. This requires a lot of extra water that you have to heat.
There are NOT lots of links. And once again the ignorant chime in with "just do a search on google".
I have researched this extensively. I have looked at over 50 USA manufacturers. There simply is not mainstream manufacturer that exceeds the 6' tub.
Bath Masters has a tub that you can lie down in, except it is an air tub and does not have jets, even though they are pictured in one model. It is also made of Gel Coat fiberglas s and NOT Acrylic.
Gulfstream at http://www.whirlpoolbath.com/
has an 84" tub.
While many of these manufacturers CLAIM they are custom, they really are not. You are stuck just adding or subtracting jets to an existing molded tub.
Being a very tall person I am very tired of the lameo responses that most people post by chiming in.
I hope you find a product that suits your needs.

thank you for your understanding.
we have also researched this extensively, for over a year now, and yes, 6 ft. as an interior dimension is very rare. that is why we are exploring building 1 and hope to find others on here who have tried it so it doesn't leak.
we shall call that whirlpool and Bath Masters site tomorrow, as most sites never make it easy to find interior dimensions.
as you suggest, we all hope for posts that are helpful, and don't just take up space entertaining themselves or criticizing, which makes true research more difficult.
ps. is Gel Coat fiberglass weaker or just wears out faster than Acrylic?
please let us know if we can help you in turn with your own research.
