Is your basement a toilet for utility workers
Has anyone else had the pleasure of a Con Edison or Keyspan Energy utility worker using an empty box or pail to relieve themselves in the basement? Thats happened to our coop three times now the most recently today with Keyspan - National Grid. I'd like to here from others with similiar stories.

They're human too, think of what it is in NYC to work outside all day. If they do it on a recurring basis, may I suggest you offer them the use of your facilities when they arrive on the premises. I'm sure they'd appreciate it, and that would solve the problem.

Good point Denton they are human - more to the point adults - and as such one would expect an adult to ask for a restroom when needed; not seek out an empty box, use it as a Turkish toilet then stash it in a corner. Or skip the box and defecate in a corner. Classy indeed! Then of course there is the question of why not take it with you and throw it out. Ironically, there are two construction sites in the building both with facilities for the workers when needed. Even if there were none, there are restaurants and diners where for the price of a take-out coffee you can use a facility. I am a carpenter contractor who's worked on many a bathless site, inside and out, all day - but never ran across this. Please don't be so quick to excuse/condone uncivilized behavior.

Well I understaend if you gotta go , you gotta go. That being said, my boiler man asked to use my bathroom and I noticed he was taking rather long. When he exited after 10 minutes I had to disinfect that bathroom. I couldnt believe he blew up my bathroom.I always keep clorox bleach cleaner on the tank as well as renuzit air freshener. He didnt even try to use either.I figured he had a bad meal. Then the next visit, he asked to use the bathroom again and did the same thing.This last visit when the boiler wouldnt start, he asked to use it and I asked if he was going to be long and I think that prevented him from relieving himself if you know what I mean. So I dont volunteer the use of my bathroom, if they ask I will let them,except the boiler man(lol).

Last year I had a mover ask to use the clean bathroom in my brand new apartment...the smell was appalling, and that's the last time I ever let a stranger use my personal potty. His helper said he always leaves a dump at every moving job. So gross. I'll never hire that guy again, either.

This is disgusting. If this happened at my house I would have Keyspan on the phone ASAP. I've let workers use my bathroom before, when they've asked. What's so hard about "Excuse me, could I use your bathroom"?

On the other side of taking that dump. We're human. I have ulcerative colitis. Letting me use your bathroom (or go to the front of the line) is often the only thing from having a grownup have an "accident." It might not be the most pleasant thing but think about the poor guy with soiled pants standing next to you in the subway.
