how much for millwork?
I need to get a small amount of base cap milled (50ft or so) and want to know 1) what I should expect to pay, roughly, per LF and 2) if any Brownstoners can recommend someone for this work? thanks in advance.

try dykes lumber. I had a molding duplicated
and it's very expensive. approx. 40 ft for $400. not worth it but needed it.

Do a search on the internet for millworks in the midwest. A few years ago I had some custom molding milled and it was half the price that I would have paid here. I sent them a sample of my molding, they made a knife, which was an extra charge(I believe it was around $150) and then charged me about $3 ft for the actual molding. If they already have the knife for your molding, then you don't pay that charge. Sorry, I don't remember the name of the place.

species? $10/lf - that is not a guess.

1:03. It's really not by the lf. They charge all kind of fees, between the the knife, wood and labor it all adds up. In the end it's way over priced.

I had a large base cap molding made up at southslope woodworks (advertises here) for $10/per foot. It was already primed when it was delivered.
