not only do you suck at taking pictures but . your taste in bathrooms suck too , no offence please . looks very 80's . I'm just not feeling it
Posted by: guest at March 10, 2008 7:02 PM
whats so 80's about em?
Posted by: armchairwarrior at March 10, 2008 7:04 PM
I wouldn't say 80's... so much as boring. Yeah ok...80's, 7:02 you nailed it.
There's no soul here, no humour, no sense of place. Which makes sense... that tile was probably made in an automated factory in Sri Lanka where the old growth timber was clear cut and the effluent flows out the back door. The distributor who sells this should be ashamed. Cares not a wit about the pedigree and historic character of the neighborhood.
Brooklyn... sorry for your loss.

Good God! I have been waiting for email notification that I can create a profile as something other than "guest" - hoping I can become a part of this community as it generally seems so helpful and supportive. But comments like these are exactly opposite (in addition to being cruel). Why would both of you say such things to someone excited about their FINISHED renos? Be creatively helpful or zip it!

If the op has the balls to post pics of bathrooms like that he should be able to take the good and bad things people have to say
I don't like it either
Posted by: guest at March 10, 2008 8:06 PM
I think these guests who make these harsh remarks and act like they know it all and all of the sudden they got good taste should make there identity known or keep his or her mouth shut forever .
Posted by: guest at March 10, 2008 8:16 PM
What, is it a requirement to have "balls" to post pictures of your hard fought/won renovations on this site? Is it some kind of a your momma competition? If you don't like something, must you use words like "it sucks"?? I'm with 8:01 on this one!
Posted by: guest at March 10, 2008 8:17 PM
I can guarantee all those who are this mean and insult other people's renovations are living in rental apartments with nasty linoleum floors in their bathrooms. People with beautiful houses have nothing to be so bitter about.
Posted by: guest at March 10, 2008 8:41 PM
Nice bathrooms. But you do suck at taking pictures. ;) They are cut off! Wider lens or step back.
Posted by: rh at March 10, 2008 9:09 PM
8:17 I am with you in your defense of Melissa's right to fight hard and win a renovation... Bravo.
But if it really does suck... in a "oh my, you had the opportunity and you blew it" (bad sucking metaphor)... Check that
if it really does suck... as in "Brooklyn 3 units at a time, is being taken over by a cheap film of badly designed third world product that is caluculated to copy our own history and innundate our own markets, in a flood"(another bad sucking metaphor).... Check that
Maybe in the shine of those tiles, you can see the vague outline of the ears of Ross Perot, he voice echoing truth about NAFTA... "It's that sucking sound..." That's it...
It sucks... not personally, not intentionally, and certainly not hurtfully... but never the less, it is so because it ignores that by degrees, this place which we love, is being erased.
As penance you (8:17) should buy Melissa some local art.
Posted by: guest at March 10, 2008 9:19 PM
this place was a rental before i brought it, it had no details left. it was nasty. it had to be gutted. what third world products you talking about? half the stuff is made here and design here.
Posted by: armchairwarrior at March 10, 2008 9:24 PM
I didn't like it at first, but now I do.
It kind of reminds me of a hotel bathroom.
Is that Corian? The niche is a nice touche.
Where did you get the tile?
Posted by: guest at March 10, 2008 9:51 PM
Whatever are you all talking about> Who are you? You are "guests" and you talk such trash. Register, behave nicely, then your comments might be worth something.
Thanks for sharing your photos - this blog is getting so realtor focused it is nice to see some actual renovation going on.

its granite, my contractor got the tiles for me, he got it from some tile shop i think at sixty fifth st and 8th ave or 9th ave. some where around there, alot of tile shops.
Posted by: armchairwarrior at March 10, 2008 9:57 PM
Beautiful.... congrats on a job well done!
Posted by: bren at March 10, 2008 10:51 PM
Your tile job looks fine. You have taken a rectangular space and given it a clean, sharp look.
I do tile work, and you have probably gotten the most bang for your buck. Is it possible to throw more money at it? Sure, but there's no accounting for taste, and for a rental you can't lose with white on white.
Heaven forbid, but if it ever becomes necessary to fix after a strange tenant, make sure you have some tiles from that lot.
You did fine. The other "guests" should post photos of their bathromms to show us how it should be done. We hard workers who try to do the right thing are obviously clueless.

Yeah well, it's that "Bang for a Buck" mentality that has our Governor in the head lines today.
If the Governor for example had taken the time to romance his wife... to work on the history and relationships among his family,we would all be better off this morning. Instead he went for the "Bang for a Buck"...
So how does that situation have to do with this? These buildings deserve a more considerate relationship, one that respects that back in the day, building stewards considered quality and design. In this case, the tile guy was dispatched to go get some nameless 10cents psf tile when there is such quality available. Why? Bang for the Buck...
The point is that maintaining the fabric of these neighborhoods is in the hands of "Bang for a Buck" finishes... thanks 1119, that's one of the problems here.

Governor...bang for a buck...giggle.

I too am waiting for an email to be allowed to register....
Curious, what is that thing over what looks like the toilet in the small bathroom? Is it a air hand drier?
Congrats, tastes aside, it must be nice to be done with the bathrooms.

People should note the OP did say these bathrooms were done in 3 units so it's an apartment building not some chic brownstone asking for our harsh critique.
These are perfect for apartments. It's clean and simple with clean lines. Plain classic white tiles are always appealing. Nice!
Posted by: guest at March 11, 2008 2:07 PM
Bad assumption 2:07... Three units... must be an apartment building.... No... it just means that there are 3 units in that building OP doesn't live in.
Buy it fix flip it... Take the money out buy it fix it flip it... Is this true OP?
Not that there's anything wrong with that ;)

Congratulations on finsihing the renovations.
I think the bathrooms look great, especially for rentals. Definitely the way to go. Everything is new, clean, neutral and classic which allow the tenants to put their own touches in with accessories. The OP specified that he has three units so obviously at least two are rentals. What's wrong with this? The people who are negative and just plain mean probably are just jealous and will never own a damn thing in their life. I'm sure they wish the apartment they rent had a bathroom half as nice as these.

all three are rentals, i'm in brooklyn for long term investing. One day i'll be able to live in one myself. for now its a very long term investment.
its a brick house from 1800's. it been use as a rental before i got it. no details left. i was hoping to find something during reno.
yes hand dryer. lol my friends hate it. i thought it was more environmentally friendly. so i heard, plus i didn't want the hand towels to be smelly in a small space.

Armchairwarrior, I am only 3 weeks into my renovation of 2 bathrooms. Can't wait until they're all done. Congratulations on your renovation.
Posted by: Polie at March 11, 2008 9:42 PM
thanks guys and good luck to all of you :) on your renovations :).

I like the white and black, like tile, and can deal with shiny tile even if not my preference. I generally hate shower doors - prefer shower curtains because crud gets stuck around doors and is a pain to clean. Also, people don't realize that some people like to take baths as well as showers, and it is nicer to do so when not closed in by doors. But the first pic's doors look good, and the second could be worse. In general, I think they look ok.
