Granite Countertop

Looking for a place to install a granite countertop that will not break the bank. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You might be surprised how much can go wrong! Make sure they make a template with paper or something to get the exact fit as close as possible, before they start.

Our installer did not, and ended up trimming the stone to fit the actual cabinets & walls with a grinder...INSIDE our apartment which left a thick layer of stone dust on everything. They also tried to sneak in a extra piece with another seam, to make up the shortfall on a bad shop cut and told me the seam was part of the natural "veining" of the stone.

This was about 2 years ago - The Tub Factory in Long Island. There is no way you can do worse. Good luck!

Do you need them to supply the granite as well?

There are a bunch of granite shops near 3rd Avenue and 19th Street. Id suggest stopping by a few of them and getting some quotes.

looking for the same thing. I found the following:

City Marble - 19th and 3rd avenue, Brooklyn (open saturdays)

Kings Marble and Granite - 9312 Ditmas, Brooklyn (closed saturdays - open sundays)

will check them both out this weekend.

I used E-Stone in Greenpoint for my granite countertops. I thought their prices were fair. (I think I paid around $60/sf including installation.) Also, I was able to pick the exact slab that I wanted them to use. They came to my place, and took detailed measurements, and installed the countertops that same week. It was a very clean/neat job overall.

There are a ton of slabs at Hindustan.

They're only the supplier. You'll still need a fabricator to install the counter.

We used Fiorano tile. They did a great job with the install and the price was competitive.

The contractor who lives on our block recommended Tillary Tile on Flatbush between 5th and 6th Avenues -- he used them for his new kitchen counters. I compared their prices to Ikea, and they were cheaper. We used them and have been really happy with the service.

I used IKEA last year when I replaced my countertops. The price was very reasonable and the installation was painless.

If you can get out to New Jersey, I would recommend Marble Co. (here's their website: http://www.marble.com/). They were cheaper than any quotes I got in the city, and they had a much shorter turn around from template to installation too. You also get to wander around their lot outside and see thousands of slabs of granite stacked up to get a better idea of what your little swatch will look like as a counter.

Agree with above poster, 3rd Ave and 19th behind Home Depot. We are going with Marble City recommended by our contractor who has worked with them for years. Prices were OK, we'll see how the finished product comes out.

We used Wholesale Marble and Granite. It is off of McDonald Avenue and Ave Z in Brooklyn.

They have 4 full warehouses full of (dozens)granite slabs to chose from and they come to your place make a template, fabricate the granite themselves and instll the finished granite.

Very professional and cost effective.

affordable prices should always go with quality services. we should think of the durability of these granite countertops to be able to save more.

While a house (or other residential dwelling) is often referred to as a "home", the concept of "home" is a much broader idea which exceeds the denotation of a physical dwelling. A home is often a place of refuge and safety, where worldly cares fade and the things and people that one loves becomes the focus. Many people think of home in terms of where they grew up, and home can even be a time rather than a place.[1] The word "home" is also used for various residential institutions which aspire to create a home-like atmosphere, such as a retirement home, a nursing home, a group home (an orphanage for children, a retirement home for adults, a treatment facility, etc.), a foster home, etc.

Make sure your shopping for the best deal, and not the cheapest deal. There's a bid difference!
