Forced Air Ducts in English Basement

Does anyone have any thoughts on how to clean up the ducts from our gas forced air heater that run through the English basement and kill the space? We can't afford a new water based system for 30k or so, so are trying to work with the existing heater but still turn the space from a basement/utility area into a more finished space for a growing family on a budget.
Thanks in advance!

I should add that the current gas forced air system works fine now, which is why I can't quite justify spending 30k on a new system if a few ducts can be reworked and reogranized for much less.

Can you take out the large ducts and install micro-ducts which are smaller and take less space? And do it just in that room not the whole house? Ask a heating place about that.
