car break-ins in fort greene

there's a stretch of our block that is boarded up for construction (the Carlton Mews project), where car windows are routinely broken into, sometimes several times a week. we avoid parking there, obviously, but sometimes it's necessary when no other spots are open. i'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for what we can do as a block to fight this problem. hopefully everyone is reporting the break-ins, but even so, i'm not sure what good that will do.

I think James Bond had it rigged so if someone broke his car window the car would explode.
Not so practical, but effective.

I guess its only a matter of time before cars come with built in video surveillance, for now you have to have a company like OBS set it up.

As a block the best thing you can do is hang out on the street and pick up the trash.

I had my bad stolen yesterday in front of my house while unloading the car. They immediately went and charged over $600 in metro and pathmark fees. Bad stuff going on...

Well... back in the 80s on vanderbilt, we used to weld a chain between the hood and the frame. Then we'd put a giant metal clamshell around the steering column, as well as two steering wheel->pedal locks. Before parking the car, we'd open the glove compartments, grab the radio, and leave the car unlocked.

After a while, the local homeless folks stopped bothering it.
