I live in Bed Stuy and I go to Hope Vet in Cobble Hill, it's a short drive. I like them, they're pretty fair and tend to think in terms of diet/environment instead of pumping animals full of steroids and antibiotics that wind up making them sicker.

There's a newish (2 years old?) vet around the corner from me on Tompkins around Halsey. I've never been. I still use my old vet from the Slope, Silverman on PPW.

I am huge fan of Animal Kind. Its in Park Slope on 7th ave and 11th street. Open late , very very good service. Its a little further but worth the trek, esp if its something more serious.

Atlantic Animal Care is very good, located on Atlantic Ave between Henry & Hicks. We used to take our dog to Hope Veterinary Clinic further up on Atlantic but left them because they failed to diagnose ringworm in my dog for three months...a total disaster. We now take her to Atlantic Animal and are very pleased with the attention and medical care she gets.

There's Brooklyn Veterinary Clinic on Vanderbilt between Lafayette and Greene. I think they can be a bit pricey, but my cats have always received great care there. There are always a lot of dogs there, so dogs must do well, too. I like Dr. Dockery, she's gentle and sympathetic without being smarmy. The staff is great, too.

My dog & cats have been going to Brooklyn Veterinary on Vanderbilt for 12 years with very good results. I love Dr.Erin Dockery as well plus Dr. Burns has great experience and always gets right diagnoses. The staff is very nice and caring. They are open on Sundays for few hours as well which makes it easier in case you can not make it during the week.

I also go to BVC. They are good. The facility is clean and the staff always remembers the important details.

Dr. Helen Spiegel at Animal Kind is awesome!
I've taken my two dogs there for quite some time and since I've moved out of PS I still make the trek b/c she is so great. The other vets there are fine, but I found her to be the one I related to most. Congratulations on the new home and the new puppy!

I switched from Animal Kind to Hope Vet.
390 Atlantic Ave between Hoyt and Bond
Wonderful people, my cat even liked it there.

Are you getting a pit bull with a 30lb chain & lock for his neck? Just asking to see how well you will fit into your "hood".

We just switched from Hope Vet to Vinegar Hill Vet Group in Dumbo.
The wait time at Hope was astronomical. I mean, seriously, is this vet that great that I should waste my entire Saturday so she can spend 5 minutes with my cat? Geez.
Vinegar Hill just opened so they're pretty quiet and the vet there is great - used to be at St. Marks in E. Village. Reasonable price too.

Dr Burns is incompetent - he completely mishandled my dog's chocolate poisoning, literally reading (for the first time) out of the vet manual in front of me - then he proceeded to do an unnecessary and traumatizing biopsy and sliced up my poor dog's liver and needed more surgery to fix the wounds he inflicted - and then charged me for all of it. the staff is incompetent and they tortured my dog. i took him to the animal medical center in the city and they confirmed that my dog was abused by dr. burns. do not trust this man with emergencies - i'm sure he's competent to administer routine vaccines. CAVEAT EMPTOR: they do NOT wash thermometers off between dogs' rectums and there is no running water in the exam rooms. I'm serious-they use DIRTY thermometers and dip them in a RX bottle full of vaseline - this place is horrible.
