Total Re-Wiring of 3 Story?

Hi,
How much do you think it would cost to totally re-wire a 20 ft wide, 3 story townhouse from the 1880's?
Just trying to price out options.
Thanks!

I would guess-ti-mate at about 3k per floor, as long as you are not doing anything too fancy.

Good Luck

8-10k per floor if it is new everything which i think you are after.

The wiring is the smaller part of the cost -- the larger part is the finish work involved because of the new cable runs. Placing boxes in plaster and wood lathe is difficult, running the cable would likely require removing all the baseboards in areas receiving new power, etc.

So the cost depends on an important question -- is this part of an entire renovation where people are chopping up walls anyway? Or is this strictly a rewiring that doesn't involve other general contracting work, and you have to match all the surfaces back to where they were?

it will run you at least 20k if you are redoing 100% of the electrical (i.e. all outlets, all lights, new fuse boxes, etc.).

I got mine done for about $4000 a floor, rewiring and replastering. The wiring didn't have to be done all at once. An additional cost you may have to budget for would be increasing the electric service to the house. It may be something totally low for a modern home.
