Crime on the rise in Brooklyn?
There was a recent rash of break-ins in my area of Williamsburg (the Italian off Lorimer ... probably the quietest part of WBURG).
Despite what police statistics say, it's definitely feeling less and less safe. A lot of my friends in Park Slope have been mugged at gunpoint within the past month.
So, does it feel like crime is starting to go up for anyone else? Things definitely feel less safe than last year.

I saw some suspicious youths crossing the street in brooklyn once but it turned out they were my cousins

Maybe if you counted everyone in park slope as your friend, and included muggings from the past 5 years, maybe that's alot ? Sorry, it sounds almost hysterical.

3 kids tried to rob me a coupla weeks ago in FG Park; still, it was one incident and I wouldn't consider it indictitive of a trend... I live in PS and haven't heard of 'alot' of holdups...

Friend of mine had her apartment broken into in Fort Green. She was so wigged out that she came to stay with me for a couple of weeks.

All one needs to do is look at STATS.
So far in 2008, Park Slope crime is way down.
It's up in Carroll Gardens, Crown Heights, Bed Stuy and parts of Williamsburg.

There were lots of burglaries in Williamsburg last week
By Dana Rubinstein
The Brooklyn Paper
It was a bonanza fortnight for burglars, who raided no less than eight homes and one business in Williamsburg, but one crime stood out: a smash-and-grab job at a Varick Avenue auto repair shop.

Of course the stats say crime is up there because we know from brokers that Carroll Gardens is the most valuable neighborhood and we know from MontroseMorris endless rants that Crown Heights and BedSty are sooo valuable. Park Splope stroller moms are too scary so theives don't go there anymore.

Stroller moms will rip your nutsack off if you try to F*ck with them...They mean business.

Is there a way to have a dialog on this site without continually resorting to four letter words. Did any of you people graduate from high school.
Posted by: guest at February 25, 2008 12:19 PM
HELL NO!

Crime up in Carroll gardens i dont think so. Very quiet in Bococa. Crime up in Brooklyn, i don't think so. If you think this is crime try living in another state and see how you like it.

the bigger the neighborhood, the more crime too.
i have lived all over brooklyn and definitely recommend getting a security system.

Are we talking about petty crime or crime period? Because Carroll Gardens have some of the most notorious brooklyn criminals in the borough for decades. They recently arrested a few prominant business people connected to the Gotti Family. Those of us who have been around for a long time know the history. Every big mob connected funeral was performed in Carroll Gardens.

One of the many and varied uses of Friendster, Facebook and My Space have been the selective targeting of those whose friends live in Park Slope by armed and dangerous rogues disguised, believe it or not, as stroller-milfs!!!

crime is so down it's not funny. you guys should move to South Dakota and live on a farm. Then you can Blog about the crime .

I saw a guy taking a dump on a stoop in Park Slope. Is that a crime?
Posted by: guest at February 26, 2008 8:56 AM
that was me, 8:56.
couldn't hold it. i lived there. it's ok.
Posted by: guest at February 26, 2008 10:52 AM
Actually, I think MORE people need to be held up at gunpoint.
So If anyone reading this is a mugger with a gun please come to Williamsburg and totally fuck up some of the hip white consumers gamboling about on Bedford Avenue. They're feeling way too safe these days and are in desperate need of some hot fear...and a bit of pistol whipping.
k?thnxbye!!
