changing sliding sash window for casement

changing sliding sash window for casement

Hi, I'm thinking of changing old sliding sash windows for casement windows. Does an open casement window block more breeze then a sliding sash window to any noticeable effect of the room temperature during summer? Any one have any other experience or suggestions for making this switch?

Depends on the wind direction. It can catch the breeze and bring it into the space. I have one in my kitchen and love it. It replaced a casement that was hard to get to above a sink. But remember to close when it starts to rain, as it's more exposed than a casement.

thanks, my other question was how do you put a window guard on it to block kids from falling out? does it have to go all the way up to the top of the window?

My wife and I replaced all our sash windows 2 years ago with Anderson casements. The ones on the first floor are terrific. But the ones in the bedrooms upstairs were a mistake. The shades swing with the breeze in the summer and wake us up. Also the windows themselves move slightly with the wind, enough to disturb our sleep. I called Anderson about this but they said it was planned that way. If I had it all to do over again, I would do casements on the first floor and the bathrooms, and sashes in the bedrooms.
