calculating property tax
does anyone know how to calculate property tax on a condo unit? i am looking at a listing and want to verify the monthly amount that the broker put up. thanks!

it's hard (impossible, i think) to figure it out b/c it's based on a value assigned by NYC (the estimated rental value, i think).

Look up the property tax records on NYC department of Finance web site - you can see exactly what they pay.

3:30 is right, except perhaps if its a newly constructed condo. If no one is living there yet, odds are that the condo has not yet been divided into separate tax lots, so no tax information on the unit itself (as opposed to the whole condo building) will be available. If that is the case, the broker is likely quoting the tax estimate from the offering plan, which is not necessarily anywhere near what you wind up paying.

Does anyone know exactly where to look this up on the Department of Finance site? I'm having the exact same issue (buying a condo, not a new development, and want to verify the taxes the broker is claiming.
