Yellow Pine

I'm about to refinish the Yellow Pine Floors in my rental unit. Has anyone dealt with Yellow pine b/4 and does it make sense to stain them, or just leave them natural with a satin finish. Any feedback is greatly appreciated

When I had part of my original floor refinished, the guy told me it was southern yellow pine and that it didn't need stain. He was right, it came out beautifully.

We stained our pine floors ebony. We didn't think it would turn out attractive, but it did.

I wouldn't bother staining old wood- it has a lot of color in it from aging already.

Only way is to do some tests. With pine, you don't know how much color is in the wood until you try. Sand a small area and try a few samples. We tried a few medium red-ish stains on our pine planks (we're guessing eastern white) and the stains looked like cheap brown paint. Only choice was clear finish, and they came out with a multitude of rich, amber hues. But use a finish, even if clear, don't just coat the bare wood with poly. Also, if you have had water damage, even after you sand away the stains, it will show up as deeper color in the floor.

I have what I think is yellow pine, without stain, looks great. I believe it was the subfloor originally, as other apartments in my 100-year building have oak parquet. It wasn't made to be shown, but looks beautiful - the color is great - everbody who walks in comments on it - I would never stain it (even though I can appreciate dark stained floors in some places.)
