where to find old photos of your house?
Hi,
Is there a resource in the city for finding old exterior photos of your home? We are buying a house that has been altered and would like to know how it looked before the changes a previous owner made. Any ideas?

The city archives in Manhattan has tax photos that you can buy. We got ours for our house in Victorian Flatbush when we moved in- used it to restore the front porch. I think ours was dated from 1943 maybe? Also, ask whoever you're buying the house from- they might already have it.

Im wondering this too..but propertyshark usually have a new photo and an older photo. In my case the older photo was no help...do you know if this is the photo that the city archives would have?

or go in person to the municipal archive just across from city hall. you can look at the microfilms of the 1939 tax photos, and order prints. it's well worth the trip.
