Mover Recommendatioin

I am moving out of my co-op in Manhattan to my new apartment in a walk-up in Bushwick. Can anyone recommend a good mover that they have used recently. I need someone who is fully insured and can show up on time.

Thanks

We used Shleppers when we moved from Manhattan to Brooklyn (walk-up) two years ago. The movers were excellent--prompt, fast, careful, polite. They are a big company, so fully insured, etc.

My only caveat is to advise that you pay in cash. They only accepted money orders or cash, so we prepared a money order in the amount of the estimate. Then when the final total came out a couple hundred bucks less than the estimate (pleasant surprise!), I was told I'd get a check back for the difference. It took *months* of phone calls and letters to get. Their management really sucks. But their moving guys were great.

I used flatrate. They were pretty good, but I think a bit more expensive than other movers.

Had a fantastic experience with Shea Moving for my Brooklyn move. Came to the house and wrote an estimate with a not to exceed clause. The estiamte was lower than most of the major companys (OZ, Flatrate, Mover not Shakers) who only did an over the phone estimate and grossly over estimated the time.

On moving day they showed up on time, worked quickly and efficiently and actually came in around 20% below the estimate. Cant say enough good things about them - Very satified with price and service.

Try Oz Movers. They were first rate when I used them a few months ago.

I had great success with Movers Not Shakers. I highly recommend them.

Also recommend Movers Not Shakers. Flat price and they worked quickly. I packed myself though to make sure the fragile stuff was packed well.

Flat Rate Movers were fantastic. They were on time both days and everything was moved with care. Our quotes from Flat Rate Movers and Movers Not Shakers were comparable; we chose Flat Rate because of the (duh) flat rate, while MNS had some variability in their quote due to packing material being an estimate, not a firm price. We found the FR sales reps to be more professional than MNS as well.

And I also highly recommend Movers Not Shakers.... Brooklyn based, and really great.

Listen to the crowd: Movers not Shakers. They did a great job for me and the 4 friends to whom I subsequently recommended them.

OP here. Thanks for all the great suggestions. I will call a couple different firms to get quotes. Looking forward to my new life in Bushwick on the L train.
