Any elaborations on your experience, which consultant you used there, which services you used (e.g., did they do the design? did you buy everything there, etc.). Many thanks!

They are very overpriced.
Please check with the better business bureau before you hire any of these specialty shops.
What form of payment do they accept?
(credit cards or cash only )
I went to a similar place and their payment structure added up to them being paid in full before the completion of the job.
Obviously, I never did the work under those conditions.
Read the contract carefully before you accept any one them for the job.

They are a great resource for ideas, but in my opinion are very over priced. The staff is very friendly and I'm sure it would simplify things to just go with them and leave a designer out, but only if you can afford them. I would also be hesitant to use them if good design is your top priority and if you'll be doing more than just cabinets and appliances. You need an architect or interior designer for that. MCKB are probably not the best people to chose colors and tiles for you.

You don't need an architect or interior designer just to choose cabinets and appliances. You only need one if you are knocking down walls and moving plumbing.
I happen to be someone who doesn't like a whole lot of help in choosing cabinets, fixtures, appliances or countertop. I LOVED doing it myself, but with feedback and guidance. For me it was perfect to just use the in-house kitchen design person at Park Slope Kitchen Gallery on Prospect Ave just south of 5th Ave. Her name is Kenia. They carry a good range of cabinets from high-end (Plain & Fancy) to midrange (Medallion) to less costly but still nice cabinetry. The cabinets came in exactly on time and perfect, no mistakes. The only thing they don't have is an in-house installer but they have contractors to recommend. Good luck and have fun with it.

We are also using Park Slope Kitchens and have been working with Kenia. Weve done two kitchens with them. The first one was from the Medallion line and arrived all in one piece and on time. The second is Plain & Fancy and is scheduled to arrive in two week.
So far, we've been happy with them. It took us many months to hammer out the design (our delays, not theirs) and they were helpful and patient on each visit. Kenia can help you with the design quite a lot.
My one suggestion would be to get started as soon as possible. Cabinets take months to get made and delivered in addition to the time it takes to design and decide. The more time you have, the better.

We didn't use MCKB for kitchen design, but did purchase our stove, fridge, dishwasher, hood and kitchen sink from them. Some of their prices were lower and others higher than other places -- I think on the whole, it evens out. We purchased from them because they were so helpful in helping us figure out which items to purchase. They don't seem to be given commissions by certain companies to push their brands, so they are objective. Also, they were very helpful with our contractor so that all the appliances fit in perfectly.

I used a kitchen guy in the Bronx. The name of the company is Designer Kitchen and Bath of New York. We have a rental apt and a triplex that is ours. Alec Cross designed both. For the apt, we used a Canadian company and paid a bit less than $5,000. For our kitchen we used plain and fancy. Alec's price was considerably less than other plain and fancy dealers. Our main goal of the project was to match the new wood to our 100 yr old existing wood features. Alec worked hard to design matching crown molding and design the cabinet doors to an exact fit to the rest of the house.
