LG or Whirlpool Steam Washers -- comments?
Does anyone out there have either the LG or Whirlpool Steam Washer and Dryers? They are pricy, but may be worth it if they cut down on dry cleaning bills. We have already purchased a Bosch 500 series set, but have not had it delivered, and are thinking of changing our order.
Would love to read comments on energy efficiency and cleaning ability.
Thanks!

We have the LGs and lovelovelove them. They literally make your clothes feel and smell softer/better. We no longer send our shirts out to the cleaners--I figure half the time they get stuffed into a suitcase and require pressing anyway--and the gentle treatment they receive in these machines will make them last twice as long.

can you or the comment poster tell me how much water these use. I just heard about them last week and need one at a country home that has septic holding tanks...so minimal water usage is my aim. I've read alot about them online but nowhere does it say how much water they use. Thanks

Also, could someone discuss the difference between a Steam washer and a front loading high efficiency washer?

LG washer (and, I think, all of the front-loaders) uses a fraction of the water consumed by top-loaders. You have internet service, friend--look it up. BTW, you can subscribe to Consumer Reports online on just a monthly basis if you like for $2.95.

like i said - guest - "i've read a lot about them online but nowhere does it say how much water they use" Like a lot of comments on this site people don't read before they comment...

Is it that hard to find water-consumption data on washing machines whose main selling point is low water consumption?

Come to think of it, no one has ever told me how much water the washers use -- they just say that the water level does not go over the bottom of the window, so you are able to actually open the washer once it's started (unlike the ones in the laundrymats)

I also have the LG after MUCH MUCH research and am thoroughly happy! I can wash just about anything my family of 6 can throw at me and know that it will be cared for. I did get a little too enthusiastic and washed some wool sweaters (it has a wool setting) but somewhere, I went wrong, maybe in the drying (OH! As I type I just realized it does have a COOL setting for the dryer, that's probably what I should have done)anyway, I love it and it's already paid for itself in laundering costs.
In regards to the amount of water used, I don't know the numbers, but it is very little. As mentioned above, it doesn't go past the bottom of the drum. Good Luck!

A traditional top loader uses about 44 gallons of water because it fills the whole drum. A HE front loader uses about 14 gallons of water because it cradles the clothes.
A steam washer will help lift out stains and sanitizes clothing. A steam dryer is for those times you leave clothes in the dryer way too long and they end up wrinkled. You also use it when to freshen clothes that you wore for a few hours and they may just have odors or wrinkles, but aren't really dirty.
Note - I used to be associated with Whirlpool.

I actually have been checking because since we got our LG washer, our water bill increased. That's why I'm looking for answers at this point. That said, I checked our water meter after a load and it used 20 gallons. That seems to be the norm after each use. I'm going to be more careful with the loads to see if that will lower our monthly, but after reading what a top loader uses, I don't think that the washer is the reason for our hike in usage. Hope that answers the original poster.

I was told that the Whirlpool NFW9600T uses 73% less water and 77% less energy - I also saw that on a website when I was researching...Jadine
