heating efficiency
We have a tough question, since hdd heating degree days used by fuel companys to test efficiency with new system changes is really just an average of hi and low, is there somewhere the data would have an true avg daily temp, ie every hour temp divided by 24 hours to get a far more accurate hdd measure? we are studying fuel heating efficiency in ny. i can't imagine someone hasn't come up with a far more accurate hdd measure to see how much colder one winter is than another to compare apples to apples on a fuel bill.

Degree days is the standard for calculating a seasonal heating load worldwide.
I can't imagine how average hourly temperature could be more helpful in determining efficiency.
There are far many more variables throughout a day, such as wind, infiltration, convection, and actions within a home to determine any accurate efficiency rating.

it think the problem here is it could be 20 degrees all day with a hi for an hour at 30 degrees and the hdd avg is based on 25 degrees whereas a true avg mite be more like 22 degrees, a big difference to base any stats on! thanks
